Our global and thematic centers

We have six global and thematic centers that support the entire organization by providing leadership, coordination, expertise and resources.

Capacity Center, Bonn, Germany

The ICLEI Capacity Center integrates a diverse set of competencies into one comprehensive team of solution providers, including knowledge management, urban research, database management, process management, event management, training and capacity building, system solutions and ICT services.

The services the ICLEI Capacity Center provides fulfills the tasks of the ICLEI World Secretariat and supports ICLEI Regional Offices. They are also available to outside partners with specific project needs and deliverables.

 

carbonn Center, Bonn, Germany

The Bonn Center for Local Climate Action and Reporting (carbonn® Center), established in 2009 in Bonn, is based at the ICLEI World Secretariat. It aims to expedite cities’ transformation into low carbon communities by managing and coordinating technical support offered to cities and towns around the globe. The focus of the carbonn® Center is on setting up and operating global processes and platforms to support local governments, including guidance on standards and tools for local climate emissions accounting and reporting; and by supporting the international climate advocacy work of ICLEI. 

 

Cities Biodiversity Center, Cape Town, South Africa

ICLEI’s Cities Biodiversity Center is coordinated by the ICLEI Africa Secretariat and is located in Cape Town, South Africa. The Center has a global mandate to work on biodiversity-related matters. The Center has a dedicated team of passionate, skilled and dynamic biodiversity experts and offers cities a broad portfolio of supportive services, including: capacity development and up-skilling, technical advice, advocacy support, networking forums, profiling of achievements and conference organization.

 

Kaohsiung Capacity Center, Kaohsiung, Chinese Taipei

The Kaohsiung Capacity Center supports East Asian Cities to adapt to climate change and address issues such as biodiversity and water resource management.

 

Local Renewables Center, New Delhi, India

The Local Renewables Center is the local governments' one-stop shop providing benefits, applications, success stories, policy models and good practices related to local renewable energy.

 

Sustainable Procurement Center, Freiburg, Germany

Established in 2012, the Sustainable Procurement Center supports public authorities in implementation, spreading awareness of the concept, developing new approaches, and encouraging policy developments.
