The City of Victoria becomes ICLEI North America's second host city

In September 2017, the City of Victoria hosted ICLEI Canada’s 2017 Livable Cities Forum: Advancing Low Carbon Resilience. The city is now proud to announce its partnership with ICLEI Canada, as the host of ICLEI’s new British Columbia Office. Victoria joins Montreal as ICLEI North America’s two host cities.

The initial two year agreement between the City of Victoria and ICLEI Canada will support Victoria’s sustainability and climate goals, and will allow ICLEI Canada to better assist important climate action programs in western Provinces and their municipalities.

Victoria’s fast growing technology sector, government sector and leading research institutions represent an ideal place for ICLEI Canada’s newest regional office.

Speaking about the new relationship between the city and ICLEI, Lisa Helps, Mayor of Victoria said, “We are excited to be partnering with ICLEI Canada, and to learn from their experiences helping cities tackle climate change issues. Their outstanding expertise will help us work alongside all regional players to foster this transition to a more sustainable, low-carbon and prosperous future.”

Megan Meaney, ICLEI Canada’s Executive Director sums up her views on the partnership: “a new home in Victoria will help ICLEI better serve its British Columbia members and partners while also working more closely with the City of Victoria’s mayor and staff to advance their climate action and sustainability goals.”
