Sustainable Urban China conference and Lounge Talks to drive city-business cooperation on sustainability

2015 edition of Metropolitan Solutions event to take place in Berlin on 20-22 May

13 May 2015, Berlin, Germany: Over 3,000 participants will convene at Berlin’s CityCube on 20-22 May 2015 for the fifth edition of Metropolitan Solutions - the gateway event to cross-industry solutions for urban infrastructure. Metropolitan Solutions is the world’s biggest combined congress and exhibition on intelligent, sustainable urban development, bringing together businesses and cities to enhance their cooperation on sustainable city solutions.

This year, ICLEI-Local Governments for Sustainability will host two major events at Metropolitan Solutions: the Sustainable Urban China Conference and the Lounge Talks. The Sustainable Urban China conference, organized in cooperation with HEXUN Consulting and the GIZ (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit GmbH) on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Building and Nuclear Safety and supported by Siemens and the Urban-LEDS project, will welcome 8 Chinese delegations from the public, private and academic sectors for discussions on urbanization in China, EU-China city partnerships, green building and planning and smart energy.

ICLEI Deputy Secretary General Monika Zimmerman commented: “Many European cities are forerunners in the field of sustainability, but have their own challenges. This conference will give European cities a chance to share their expertise and experiences with our Chinese colleagues, and to learn from the issues that Chinese cities are facing. Establishing connections between cities and private sector organizations from different countries will benefit each country enormously.”

The ICLEI Lounge Talks will stimulate city-business dialogues. In roundtable discussions and presentations, table hosts from cities and businesses will present their projects, products, urban challenges and expertise. The informal and personal setting will help to foster mutual understanding between cities and businesses, as well as to develop personal contacts for partnerships and collaboration opportunities.

Organizer Roman Mendle said: “We have developed the Lounge Talks in order to bring cities and businesses closer together. Rather than watching each other present from a distance, they will be next to and across from each other, able to have conversations on the topics that are important to them. We are confident that this new format will allow cities and businesses to build lasting, meaningful relationships in relation to urban sustainability.”

In addition, Metropolitan Solutions 2015 will host around 25 parallel conferences organized by independent partners. These conferences, which will focus on different aspects of smart and sustainable urban development, include:

Sustainable Mobility for Smart Cities (German Partnership for Sustainable Mobility)
Smart Lighting and Sensing 2015 (InnovationFab Events BV)
EIP Smart Cities and Communities General Assembly (European Innovation Partnership)
International Conference on Electromobility (Berlin Agency for Electromobility eMO)
International Financing Conference (Project Finance International)
50 Years Knowledge for Better Cities (ISOCARP)
Business and Technology Conference within the Asia-Pacific Weeks (Berlin Partner, Sen WTF, Asia-Pacific Forum)

With over 25 conferences in total, Metropolitan Solutions 2015 will drive innovation and create lasting partnerships for increased city-business cooperation on urban sustainability initiatives.
